Monterey, located about one hour south of San Francisco, is famous for its marine life watching opportunities. I had the chance to watch dolphins, harbour seals, sea lions, and the threatened California sea otters. Another endangered species is the California brown pelican. But the main attraction are of course de hunchback whales. They can be seen further out of the bay, where they can dive to greater depths. I saw quite some, and I was even luck to observe a blue whale, the biggest animal on earth.
