Tbilisi (hot springs) was founded in the 5th century. It has on a strategic position between east and was, and lies also on the ancient silk road.

In the city center is the famous “freedom square” where in 1993 the “rose revolution” ended with Shevardnadze’s resignation.

The holy trinity cathedral was built after the soviet era, and is a stunning building. It has 3 levels, each one being a church on its own. There are over all 14 churches on the site. Its construction was possible thanks to the donation on one private person.

Georgians are very tolerant people, so one can see a Church, a synagogue and a mosque in a range of some 500 meters.

I visited the city with Ann and her mom, Charlotte, an amazing 88 years old lady. She travelled in some 150 countries, knows everything and has an incredible memory. Full of energy she is still travelling the world. She is in Tbilisi to visit Ann and her husband Jeff, 2 American expats living here.

Jeff lived 1 ½ years in the ancient South Pole station, and we shared great travel stories.
