Days 11 & 12
Italy (last day) Slovenia (Short visit) Croatia (Beginning)
Visited Portogruaro, a nice little town with an interesting church: Concordia Sagittarina.
So, Pisa is not the only one
No, here as well the tower from the church doesn’t look too fit either. Quite impressive, even if it is not as beautiful as the one in Pisa. But here are no annoying tourists. The city looks abandoned, and I really enjoyed strolling through it’s old streets.
Last night in Italy, in San Giorgio di Nogaro.
Next day, off to Trieste mandatory passing point if you want to go to the former Yugoslavia And, like in Trento, I did it all wrong again. In Italy, the road signs just indicate big cities, not quite helpful if you are looking for small roads. So, I followed the “Slovenia“ sign, until I was on the motorway. As I hate to turn around, I managed to cycle about 10km on a crowded motorway: personal record (old record: 2km in Palma) You should have seen the upset faces from the Italian drivers! As for me, I must say that all these encouraging honks helped me a lot to increase my speed average. On top came an extra adrenaline push, when I passed a tunnel…..
Well, I survived, and after some 20 needless km, I finally found the secondary road to Slovenia.
This part of Slovenia has no particular interest, and I finished my day in Buzet, the first little town after the Croatian border.
This town reminds me a lot of previous visits in Eastern countries. The only hotel in town is big, grey and empty.
The entrance hall is dark, only one neon light flickers over a big bar with no bottles in it.
The elevator convinces me that walking stairs is quite healthy.
My tiny room has an old black and white TV, where I can watch just one channel.
I love this. My travel starts getting interesting..
But I am sure, as soon as I will get to the Croatian Riviera “civilisation will be back
